New England native tUnE-yArDs, aka Merrill Garbus, played an epic set at Hollywood’s Music Box on Friday. For her track “Gangsta,” the second single from the recently released W H O K I L L, opening act Cut Chemist joined the artist onstage to perform an extended cut laden with human-produced “hoo-ahh’s.” Check out the performance after the jump.
Extending the track by about two minutes, Garbus and Cut Chemist looped and scratched their way the performance to produce a somehow even quirkier version of the already progressive track.
Chemist has contributed his musical stylings to tracks from DJ Shadow and Jurassic 5, among many others. Prior to the “Gangsta” performance, he reportedly said that he will be working with Garbus for his next effort.
