The Flaming Lips to Pay Tribute to Steve Jobs Via an iPad Recording as Well As Release a 24-Hour Song Encased in a Human Skull

As we proceed well into the latter quarter of 2011, big news from The Flaming Lips continues.  Without a doubt one of the busiest acts in music, the ambitious band is preparing a 24-hour song after recently releasing a six-hour song, along with performing a tribute cover of, “Revolution,” by the Beatles for the late Steve Jobs.

Similar in context to the Gummy Skulls from earlier this year, five copies of the 24-hour song will be released encased within USB drives placed inside chrome dripped human skulls; the five have already sold for $5000 a piece.

Human skulls with chrome drip!!!! 24 hour song released at midnight on Halloween!!!, said Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne via Twitter.

The skulls in question, are no joke either.  Obtained from an authorized vendor in their home state of Oklahoma, The Flaming Lips are making good on the fact that the 24-hour song will release inside a human skull.

It’s a giant, actual human skull…Not everyone can have them, but the guy I’m buying them from is allowed to sell them, said Coyne in an interview with the LA Times.

Also on Halloween night, The Flaming Lips will pay tribute to the late Steve Jobs by performing a cover of the Beatles, “Revolution,” during the O Music Awards 2.  In homage to the deceased co-founder and former CEO of Apple, the performance will be recorded on an iPad for broadcast on OMusicAwards.com.
