The Smashing Pumpkins first two groundbreaking albums, 1991’s Gish and 1993’s Siamese Dream are going to get the fully remastered treatment and get released November 29 stateside and December 5 internationally.
The rereleases are in honor of The Smashing Pumpkins’ epic legacy lasting over twenty years. Both new albums will include special features and bonus content curated from the band’s archives, and specially selected by founding member Billy Corgan. The Smashing Pumpkins have sold over 30 million albums worldwide, and created one of the most iconic and acclaimed bodies of work in the music industry today.
For the Gish and Siamese Dream liner notes, Billy Corgan was interviewed by journalist/author David Wild. Corgan reflects on why these albums were hard-won triumphs for the band and discusses the origins of the songs. In the Siamese Dream liner notes, Corgan matter-of-factly states: “We start the album out with ‘Cherub Rock’, which is basically my big F.U. to the indie world. If you read the lyrics, that was basically me railing against the ‘hipper than thou’ New York indie mentality.”
Smashing Pumpkins are currently touring America and Europe in promotion of their upcoming album Oceania that is said to be ‘an album within an album’. The tour will end in Lisbon on December 5 and the 13 song album will be released in early 2012.
