Muse bass player Chris Wolstenholm recently revealed the band’s plans to begin recording their sixth studio release sometime in September or October, in an interview on BBC 1 . This will be the bands first release since 2009’s The Resistance, (Warner Bros) which earned the band their first Grammy for Best Rock Album last February.
The band has been touring extensively behind the LP for the last two years, so hitting the studio to write new material may be a break from redundancy.
“I think by the time you’ve finished touring an album, which is usually a two-year cycle, it’s something you start thinking about a lot”, Wolstenholm said.
After playing L.A. Rising in July, the band performed at Reading and Leeds Festival at the end of August, where they played their entire 2001 album, Origin of Symmetry.
“It’s difficult to bring new songs into the live set before you record them with the internet and dodgy recordings of live songs getting out there before they’ve been released on an album,” says the 32 year-old bass player, offering insight as to why the band chose not to debut any new material at the festival.
According to Wolstenholm, the band is making no plans to tour less, and is excited to be going into the studio to make another album to tour behind.
“We’re always going to be the kind of band that want to get out and play live,”he says.
September also marks another significant milestone for the band, marking the band having sold over 20 million records world-wide since their debut in 1999 with Showbiz.
