Meet the Bad News Bears
Coming from an area that artists of all kinds flock to, it might be difficult to generate a unique enough sound to stand out, make a mark and be heard. Many musicians might struggle to gain a following because there are so many others struggling to do the same. Brooklyn rap duo, Sentence and Swell contribute in equal parts together as the Metermaids to do exactly that.
Their new EP, Rooftop Shake is the current pride and joy of Strange Famous Records. The duo consider themselves “The Bad News Bears of Hip Hop.” The album includes collaborations with a few hip hop veterans such as, Sage Francis, Buck 65 and 9th Wonder. Some of the notable tracks on the album include the first single “Graveyard Shift,” an ode to late night workers who tirelessly put in work deep into the hours of the night. Owning a nocturnal lifestyle is essentially grimey, but irrelevant when the paper chase is necessary. Also, “Ghost Town” is the love song on the album. It describes an opposites attract type of relationship in front of a New York backdrop. I love when rappers make love songs. The sentiment always comes from a sweet place.
“Gone” is a great track as well. Anything 9th Wonder touches is gold. The King Midas of the production game lends his soulful genius to the Metermaids and ends the EP on a high note.
