Last week we reported that beloved French electro producer, father and composer DJ Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, aka DJ Mehdi, 34, died in an accident at his home. More details regarding the tragedy have emerged, and the beat-maker’s death was caused after injuries sustained from falling through a Plexiglass skylight in his Paris apartment’s floor, citing a report in Spin.
Mehdi was hosting a party for friend and collaborator DJ Riton, who recorded with Mehdi as Carte Blanche, when Mehdi and three friends fell through the cracked skylight, MTV reports citing French magazine Liberation Next.
The acclaimed DJ gained reputation during the 1990’s by working with hip-hop artists such as 113 and Ideal J among many others, and had a successful solo career before signing to Ed Banger in 2006 and releasing Lucky Boy, as well as with working with the likes of Daft Punk, Chromeo and many others.
In addition to many friends and fans and fellow artists such as RJD2, Kid Sister and Drake reaching out through social media, Paris’s Social Club posted this message on its Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon, according to electronic music magazine Resident Advisor: “Following the death of DJ Mehdi, we have made the exceptional decision to close the club tonight. An evening of silence in honor of the artist. Thank you for not commenting on this status.”
