Don’t think you can put the young men of Holiday Shores inside any musical box. The psychedelic pop rock band might be one of the most ingenious bands making a splash onto the scene these days. Breaking free of any and all musical comfort zones, their new albumNew Masses for Squaw Peak is a dizzying album that moves with simplistic harmonies, unexpected beats and brilliant mixes.
Current single “Spells” opens with bewitching summer wind chimes, jazzy guitar strums and audacious melodies providing an instant hit. Another standout is “Mystic Pharaohs (Masc Pharoahs),” which rides a darker edgier beat in clear juxtaposition to “Spells.” It shows the band’s bewildering use of experimentation without solely relying on one musical form or beat to carry the album. Meanwhile, “Cor- Du- Roi” is as breathtaking as it is sophisticated in talent, leaving the listener anxious and curious for more.
New Masses for Squaw Peak will leave a mark in the best, most exciting way one can hope.
