Faith No More’s Mike Patton recently detailed the release of Music From The Film and Inspired By The Book The Solitude of Prime Numbers, a sonically cinematic affair inspired by the 2008 Paolo Giordano novel of the same name.
Aptly, Patton will release the album on November 11, aka 11-1-11, via Ipecac Recordings. It will differ from other Patton projects such as Mondo Cane and Tomahawk in that the album features a more ambient, engaging feel over his usual multilayered, complex instrumentation.
Patton reportedly opted for a more flowing musicality for the album after being inspired to write a soundtrack to the novel, which tells the story of how the main characters, Alice and Mattia, lead parallel lives to one another, just as twin primes that are separated by an even number. Patton’s newfound sonic direction is designed to replicate and emote that mandatory introspection.
The tracklisting, numbered sequentially in prime numbers, is as follows:
2. Twin Primes
3. Identity Matrix
5. Method of Infinite Descent
7. Contrapositive
11. Cicatrix
13. Abscissa
17. Isolated Primes
19. Radius of Convergence
23. Separatrix
29. The Snow Angel
31. Apnoea
37. Supersingular Primes
41. Quadratix
43. Calculus of Finite Differences
47. Zeroth
53. Weight of Consequences
Note- For those of us who failed elementary math, a prime number is any number larger than 1 that has no other divisors beyond itself and 1. Giordano describes them as “squashed in between two others, but a step further on than the rest… suspicious and solitary.”
