Newlyweds Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman (The Sandman) recently announced brief co-headlining West Coast tour that is scheduled to kick off on Halloween at Los Angeles’ Wilshire Ebell Theatre.
Dubbed “An Evening with Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer,” the short, intimate tour will feature a couple hours’ worth of chats, stories, spoken word and, of course, songs. A recent press release hinted at the possibilities of what could happen on stage, saying that only Palmer and Gaiman, along with a ukulele, two microphones and a couple of comfortable armchairs, will populate the stage.
Before they kick off the Evening tour, Palmer and Gaiman will play a couple of California dates with The Jane Austen Argument, The Petrojvic Blasting Co. and folk artist Jason Webley. The subsequent Evening tour will run through November 10 and hit stops in Portland, OR and Vancouver, BC, among others.
To support the tour, the couple has taken to Kickstarter to sell VIP seating and access to sound checks at the stops. The Kickstarter money, which totals just over $93,000, will go to recording the shows and funding the tour.
“This show will be very different beast from the loud, crazed rock shows that I’m accustomed to…and also very different from the relatively well-behaved readings to which Neil is accustomed. Neil and I are both very close with our fanbases, and, even though there’s quite a bit of crossover, this tour is a like one big, long reception in which our two fan-familes get to meet each other. We wanted to keep the venues cozy and seated, and make the night feel like an after-hours salon more than a formal show. As Neil and I get closer to our fanbases online through blogging and tweeting, it’s nice to spend some actual quality offline facetime with everybody. We’re both really looking forward to it, I think this tour is going to provide some serious soul-food all around,” said Palmer of the tour.
