In an update to our previous story on the Indiana State Fair stage collapse, a seventh victim of that incident recently passed away from her injuries.
Passing away this past Monday after being taken off life support, Meagan Toothman, 24, of Cincinnati, OH, sustained her injuries when strong winds toppled the state fair’s main stage shortly before Sugarland was set to go on. Toothman suffered from a long list of serious ailments including brain swelling.
Ultimately, doctors decided to put her into a medically induced coma on August 15. Family members made the decision to take her off life support and donate her viable organs to those in need shortly thereafter.
“The decision was made to allow to her to be at peace,” read a Toothman family-issued statement from August 22. “This afternoon she is scheduled for a surgery that will provide gifts of sight, health, and life to dozens who are in need.”
Toothman is the seventh in a list of audience members killed in the incident that already includes Alina Bigjohny, 23, Jennifer Haskell, 22, Christina Santiago, 29, Gleen Goodrich, 49, Tammy Vandam, 42 and Nathan Byrd (a stagehand), 51.
MXDWN extends our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.
