A mysterious note was found in the Comfort Inn hotel where ex-Warrant lead singer Jani Lane’s deceased body was discovered on August 11. The note read, “I am Jani Lane”, but was not written in the singers handwriting. A phone number for a friend who was close to the singer was also written on the note, who apparently had left similar notes on Lane before. Whether or not drugs or alcohol played a part in the demise of Lane remains a mystery until toxicology reports are released, but alcohol and prescription pills were found at the scene according to rescue workers.
Lane is best known as front man of the quintessential glam-metal band Warrant, who’s 1987 hit “Cherry Pie” rocketed the singer and the band to stardom.
The singer had long suffered with substance-abuse problems, and some outraged family members feel that those closest to him should have come forth and helped him seek treatment for his problems instead of shoving a note into his pocket. As of now, there is no criminal investigation into the death of Lane.
