Usually when a frontman departs from his band to start a solo project, it’s either really bad or really good. Boots Electric is- for those of you who are already fans of Eagles of Death Metal– definitely the latter. (Whew.) Jesse Hughes’ new project combines the tongue-in-cheek garage-rock that EODM is known for with heavy synths and a touch of glam-pop. The result? A fun, funky sound that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Also, fun fact of the day- Beastie Boys associate Money Mark was a co-writer on the album and Tony Hoffer (Beck, Depeche Mode) was the producer. Big names on the back end aren’t always enough to ensure a solid album, but with Hughes’ taking the reins and this little sneak peek here that I’ve been listening to on repeat, I’ve got high hopes. His new album Honkey Kong is out on September 20th on Dangerbird Records (Minus the Bear, Sea Wolf, Silversun Pickups).
