Motorhead’s Michael “Würzel” Burston, died early last month after a long battle with heart disease.
When one considers the laundry list of Motörhead’s past members one will always stand out among the others. Michael “Würzel” Burston handled guitar duties for the legendary metal band between 1984 and 1996 which included seven of Motörhead’s albums. Würzel was known for his astute professionalism when it came to music and his unflinching good nature. Aside from his affiliation with Motörhead, Würzel was also know for his solo albums Bess and Chill Out Or Die (The Ambient Album). Prior to playing guitar in Motorhead, Würzel served as a corporal for the British army in Germany and acquired the name Würzel due to his likeness to the British fictional character Worzel Gummidge, a walking, talking scarecrow. The umlaut in his name was later added by Motörhead’s Lemmy because he felt it would be more “metal,” Würzel was 61. Listen to a track off of Würzel solo album Bess below.
