The Flaming Lips Collaborating With Black Moth Super Rainbow and Ben Gibbard

The Flaming Lips have no doubt been busy in 2011, writing, recording, and releasing tracks from an album that won’t be fully out until the end of the year. Already having enlisted the help of the likes of Neon Indian, Deerhoof and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, frontman Wayne Coyne recently announced that he has collaborations planned with Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard and Pittsburgh-based experimental outfit Black Moth Super Rainbow.

Coyne recently told Tulsa World of his planned collaboration with Gibbard, although technically this wouldn’t be the first time that the two joined forces. In 2003, Gibbard released his own version of the Lips’ “Suddenly Everything Has Changed” and also remixed their track “Do You Realize???” for 2003’s Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell EP.  Gibbard is also a reported long time fan of the Lips.

In addition to revealing to Tulsa World that he would be working with Gibbard, Coyne also let it slip that he has four tracks that he is collaborating on with Black Moth Super Rainbow that will be out in the near future.

All that cooperative musicianship doesn’t seem to be enough for Coyne, with the frontman still reaching out to Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Sonic Youth for other tracks. Neither of those collaborations have yet been confirmed.

Not only that, but other musicians are pursuing the frontman for a collab, including pop culture personalities like Ke$ha and Miley Cyrus.
