For their August issue, SPIN Magazine chose to pay tribute to the twentieth anniversary of Nirvana’s, Nevermind. In spirit of the trademark album, SPIN chose 13 contemporary acts to cover the entire tracklisting from the 1991 album, including EMA performing the hidden track, “Endless Nameless.”
In an exclusive for SPIN Magazine, EMA also shot a own music video for the tribute track in a closet-sized cable-strewn rehearsal space. Filmed on video tape before being digitized, the video invokes the teenage angst and rage which fueled Nirvana’s sporadic and raw live performances.
[‘Endless Nameless’ is] about destruction, it’s about feedback, it’s about down-tuning…It’s a performative thing they’d do at the end of a show to break shit. I can get into that,” said Erika Anderson (EMA) during a video interview with SPIN.
Commonly conducted by Kurt Cobain at the end of a live show, EMA thrashes and shatters her guitar before slumping to the floor at the video’s end.
