Iron Maiden‘s gritty yet flamboyant frontman Bruce Dickinson has confirmed the veteran heavy metal band is planning to record a 16h studio album. Though no further details about the album have been provided, Dickinson stated the album will be a follow-up to 2010’s The Final Frontier.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Dickinson opened up about the band’s problems with communicating ideas while also revealing a humble understanding of where the band is musically today and how the fans fit into their musical progression.
We try to keep things on an even keel. Being English we still have some reserve when we’re communicating ideas to each other, said Dickinson.
With the band spanning a three decade career and the band members all within their fifties, writing new material still produces turbulence between the six; however Dickinson rests assured that at least one more album is in the making.
We know the boundaries of what we can do musically, said Dickinson.
Though writing for the band today no longer heralds the same sound and energy as in the past, their process for producing material is still functioning for the veteran crew.
We go off on our own, scribble ideas into our notebooks and come back to throw everything into the melting pot, said Dickinson.
As for musical style, with their shift from 80’s heavy metal power jams towards progressive rock on Brave New World, released in 2000; Dickinson expects their next album to follow in step with their recent releases.
The fans seem to love that…We’re not the kind of band who could say: ‘Hey, let’s do an album with Kanye West’ because that wouldn’t interest Maiden fans at all, added Dickinson.
