InAeovation Meets Tradition

InAeona successfully pull off what many other newer hard-rock bands fail to do: create something fresh without disrespecting the traditions of the genre. The Boston trio’s debut EP Blue Sky All Day would be welcomed in any metal fan’s playlist, but would also stand out as something new and different. All former members of Baby Boy H (singer/guitarist Bridge, bassist Dave, and drummer James), they take their old sound and approach it with an eye toward the future.

First track “Time to Go” builds quickly to a hard-driving rhythm leading in Bridge’s sharp and crisp singing. “I’m on my way,” she screams, vocals melting into the synthesizers and other effects, and indeed she is. We all are. The EP benefits greatly from that strong start as the song properly sets the tone for the others behind it.

Like a book you don’t want to put down, each chapter pulls you in and you can’t wait to find out what happens next. After the first three songs, which are about as aurally intense as you can get, you’re ready for a breather, and the band instructs you with the song’s title, “(wait…)”. After a brief respite, it’s back to rock with the last two songs, the final one (“Forever”) being similar in intensity to the album’s first.

Mixing electronic effects with loud music is nothing new, but InAeona know how to distribute them in ways that are tasteful and alluring without distracting from the talents of the musicians and the quality of the songs. Blue Sky All Day hits hard when it needs to, backs off in the right spots, and satisfies. In the end, the only thing missing is four or five more songs, yet one expects this is just the beginning of something special.
