Releasing to coincide with the late rock ‘n roll pioneer’s 75th birthday, Listen to Me: Buddy Holly, a tribute album will be made available Sept. 6. Produced by Peter Asher, the album features covers of Holly’s hits by established artists from over three generations of rock since Holly’s time.
With the release of Rave On Buddy Holly a month ago, Buddy Holly’s influence and impact on music has been bubbling to the surface for the deceased singer-songwriter lately. Including the previously released Rave On tribute album, the fallen rock-star will also be immortalized the day of his 75th birthday with his long-awaited star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
However, Listen to Me, is more than a single tribute album.
Recently inaugurated by Songmasters, Listen to Me is multi-media entertainment platform for the celebration of fundamentally influential artists in music, with Holly as the first pioneer to be honored by Songmasters.
The Listen to Me campaign for Buddy Holly will honor his legacy through the release of recordings, musical events, and charitable programs. Following Holly’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony Sept. 7, Songmasters will hold the, “Ultimate Buddy Party,” a VIP invitation-only show at The Music Box featuring collaborators from the tribute album. The show will be recorded for a later PBS December 2011 pledge drive along with a DVD/CD release.
Among the artist collaborators for the album will be; Stevie Nicks, Patrick Stump, Jeff Lynne, Natalie Merchant, Imelda May, Lyle Lovett, Jackson Browne, The Fray, Cobra Starship, Brian Wilson, Chris Isaak, Pat Monahan (of Train), Zooey Deschanel, Eric Idle, and Ringo Starr. Linda Ronstadt’s version of, “That’ll Be The Day,” produced by Asher, will also be featured on the tribute album.
