The Creators Project to Premiere “Psycho-Opera” Written by Yeah Yeah Yeahs Vocalist Karen O

VICE and Intel’s collaborative event, The Creators Project, recently announced an upcoming New York City-based festival that will feature, among other things, the premiere of “psycho-opera” written by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs Karen O.

Set to run October 13-16 at Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse, O’s opera will feature material written by the vocalist, but she will not be performing on stage.  The opera remains as-yet-untitled and was described in a recent press release as “an assault on the tragic joys of youth.”

Cryptic, no?

The psycho-opera will be produced by The Creators Project’s production outfit, The Studio, and will feature direction from Obie-winning writer Adam Rapp.  Further details regarding plot and soundtrack are currently scarce, but stay tuned for more information as it is released.

The Creators Project has been busy in 2011, kicking off its international event series early last month in Paris and will see dates in Sao Paolo, Seoul and Bejing before making its way to New York for the Karen O opera premiere.

It should be noted that the upcoming opera is not O’s first foray into pairing music with visual elements, recently working with Trent Reznor on a cover of the classic Led Zeppelin track “Immigrant Song” for David Fincher’s remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
