Do Me Wrong, Do Me Wrong, Do Me Wrong
It’s undeniable. The Vaccines’ What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? is full of good tunes. While many doubted the band could live up to all the hype surrounding the record (the BBC placed the band third in the Sound of 2011 poll and they were nominated for the MTV Award’s Best New Band of 2011), the first full-length from the Londoners will please a large portion of indie-rock fans.
“Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra)” is their fun, upbeat debut single and the album’s first track, clocking in at only 1:24 minutes. Released with “Blow It Up,” featuring Justin Young’s strong vocals (vocals that were once a part of the folk music scene) and just three guitar notes, the songs fare well.
“If You Wanna” and “A Lack of Understanding” follow up the first track well with all the right ingredients that an indie-rock band often compared to The Strokes needs. The former mirrors the upbeat notes from the previous track with more of a surf-city sound , while the latter slows down the pace and invites the listener to empathize with relationships between you and your casual fuck buddy: “What did you think would come out of it all?/ That we’d quit pretending we doubted it all?/ Oh you don’t make me nervous, hell nobody does these days.” Listeners will hear similar themes lyrically, catering mostly to topics of chicks and weird relationships.
Six of the 11 songs have been released as singles and have accompanying videos, so trying to find any material from What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? should be an easy task. Finding material to enjoy will be even easier.
