The fact that his Jay-Z has his hip hop collab “Ray Bans” under wraps hasn’t turned off Jack White from alternate musical routes—an aspect most recently illustrated by Third Man Records’ debut genre release of Black Milk’s “Brain” b/w “Royal Mega,” both of which feature instrumental work from White Himself.
An already established MC, Black Milk comes to us by way of Detroit and was formerly affiliated with B.R. Gunna, making his debut in 2004 on the Dirty District Vol. 2 compilation. His solo debut, Sound of City, was released the following year, allowing Black Milk, aka Curtis Cross, to build his skills as a artist and producer. In addition to recording and releasing his own material, Milk has worked with artists such as Lloyd Bank, Slum Village and the late J Dilla.
Described as a classic slice of head bobbing hip hop infused with funk and soul stylings, Black Milk’s newest single features production by Milk and Jack White, the latter of which contributed guitar work to the A-side “Brain” and drums for the B-side “Royal Mega.”
