Written during the tail end of 2010, Leave No Trace was created around the musical aesthetics of Caribbean and African music with influences from ’60s Soul and R&B to synth-based British New Wave.  With soulful vocals, emotionally resonant lyrics, nimble rhythms with tersely syncopated beats, and tightly bound synthesizer and guitar lines, Leave No Traces promises to be an immaculate musical endeavor.

Originally devised by guitarist Lewis Pesacov and bassist/vocalist Luke Top as a vast and open collective of musicians, Fool’s Gold condensed into a tighter knit five-piece band for Leave No Trace. Now consisting of Pesacov on guitar, Top on bass and vocals, with drummer Garrett Ray, percussionist Salvador Placencia, and multi-instrumentalist Brad Caulkins; the new line-up has not starved the band of any musical influence, but has instead allowed them to be more focused and personal with their music while blossoming a particular style of their own.

Recorded live at Infrasonic Studios in Alhambra Calif., the band chose to keep the process simple by playing together in a single studio room.

Recording as a live band is essential for us to play off one another, to feel the heat, to push the poly-rhythms we’re so used to in the live concert setting, said Lewis Pesacov.

With a similar sentimentality for analogue recording equipment, Pesacov and the Infrasonic engineers decided upon an old 2” tape machine at an anachronistically slow speed for the format to capture the atmosphere the songs were written in.

Leave No Trace will release on IAMSOUND Records.
