Having not played Coachella since far earlier in their career The Strokes have come a long way. Their free set at SXSW all but became a total mob scene. Fans went nuts for them. Here at Coachella, the response was a little more standard. The band hammered out hits “Reptilia,” “New York City Cops,” “Someday” and “Last Nite” while lead singer Julian Casablancas snarled out each line. It was a great set, yet, there was an awkwardness in Casablancas’ stage banter. He cracked jokes in between many songs that either did not make sense or drew no laughs. To his credit, he did do his best to rile the massive crowd gathered up.
