Arcade Fire Live at the Coachella Stage

2011’s chart-topping, grammy-winning champions the Arcade Fire also had a victory lap of their own, headlining the main stage with a two-hour set. Lead sing/guitar player Win Butler smiled profusely throughout their set, thanking the crowd at every chance possible for watching their set. Of the many beloved songs they played, patient number “The Suburbs” might have echoed the best throughout the night. As a monstrous container was lifted above the main stage, Butler stated, “Alright that was the thoughtful portion of the set, now let’s fucking do something,” heading into morer upbeat numbers. Then the massive container opened and dumped dozens of large balloons. Seemingly standard balloons at first, it turned out they were actually being controlled and lit with different colors to match the songs. A unique approach to rendering a connection between audience and the band, the video walls revealed the fruits of the trick. The band themselves looked comfortable and enthusiastic. The indie world has their champion, and this was their show to cement that status. Now, the real feat will be holding on to that spot.
