Billed headliners Kings of Leon took to the main stage a little early (saving room for The Chemical Brothers later). The four relatives played a set largely consisting of their greatest cuts and hits. “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody” came near the end as expected, but it was early cuts such as “Molly’s Chambers” and “Pistol of Fire” that really showed their meddle. The group sounds technically flawless. So much so it’s almost too clean. Caleb Followill’s voice is unique to no end, but the band lacks any showmanship or on-stage banter. It is wholly American music in style and tradition, but it has the least punk “real”-ness of any band in recent memory. It’s almost too removed from feeling raw and vital, which at its heart, is what makes rock-and-roll so enrapturing.
