Just like at SXSW, the extended collective Gayngs all but stole the show. The only problem, only a few hundred people were left to see it since they didn’t go on until after midnight. By this point, with the headliners all finished for the night, most of the concertgoers had left already. No matter, Gayngs (complete with stellar appearances by P.O.S. and Har Mar Superstar) was an inspiring mix of vintage Motown-style R&B and funked out downtempo rock. By rough count, thirteen performers were playing all at once with a shimmering force of six-part harmonies. Justin Vernon from Bon Iver played guitar and smiled along the whole way, and as he should. Gayngs is a real super group. Here’s to hoping this side project becomes a real project.
