Cee Lo Green and The Ting Tings each took to a specially prepared stage, looking onto the famous plastic Sphinx and glass pyramid of The Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, and went head-to-head in the latest of Red Bull’s ambitious Soundclash events. Designed to see bands go up against each other in a battle-of-the-bands style, the event has seen a high calibre of artists rise with each passing year, to the point that this month has seen two huge productions go down, one here and another in South Padre Island over Spring Break.
A crowd of 7000 witnessed Cee Lo and The Ting Tings go up against each other in this unique format. Dropping three of their own hits to warm the crowd up, they then proceeded to cover each other’s tracks, then perform a cover (each) of The Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?.” They then proceeded with a true clash round (performing hits in a pre-determined style, reggae among them). Following hot on the heels of this, the artists both brought out their ‘wild card’ hand, with Cee Lo reuniting the Goodie Mob to perform “Get Rich To This” and The Ting Tings inviting Elvis on stage to help with “That’s Not My Name”.
The night ended with both bands moving the crowd with a jam-session collaboration – featuring Cee Lo’s recent hit “Fuck You” – before the audience went their separate ways to get blitzed for the evening on the famous strip. Another noteworthy occurrence was Cee Lo’s highly charged all-ladies band, as evidenced in the photos below.
