The festival is still underway, but it looks like Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (a.k.a. OFGWKTA a.k.a. Odd Future) is the new breakout star of SXSW. With no fewer than nine members on stage, the crew created an unbelievable reaction at the completely full Fader Fort. Unlike the previous night’s performance by the Doomtree collective which center their music on thoughful, creative and compelling music, Odd Future is a practice of shock-and-awe. The crew maniacally parades around the stage. Various members would either flat out threaten photographers in the photo pit and others would challenge the entire crowd to a water bottle fight. Debris, empty bottles, clothing and other general garbage started flying during every song. Near the end of their set, the group prompted the entire audience to chant “Fuck tha police!” only in their own way. Together, they are truly aggressive to the point of intimidation. Youthful and overflowing with energy, (and certain to spawn a tremendous amount of controversy as they grow in popularity) are stars in the making.
