Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore has been hard at work on his fourth solo LP, Demolished Thoughts, with some help from Beck in the role of the producer. Scheduled for a May 24 release via Matador Records, the album features support from Bram Inscore (Electrocute) on bass and Joey Waronker (REM) on drums.
Demolished Thoughts was recorded throughout last fall and winter in Los Angeles and Northampton, MA and reportedly takes its title from The Faith’s track, “It’s Time.”
The album also shares a title with Moore’s offshoot project formerly known as Society’s Ills that reunited for a show at SXSW last year. Reformed as Demolished Thoughts, the group covered tracks from veteran hardcore punk outfit 7 Seconds.
Group members included Moore along with J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Don Fleming (Velvet Monkeys), Awesome Allison and Jonah Falco (Fucked Up). Andrew W.K. was initially supposed to fill Falco’s role of bass player but got lost on the way to the venue.
Tour dates in support of Moore’s solo album, along with an mp3 preview, will reportedly be released in the near future.
