Chromeo Live at Fox Pomona Theater, February 19, 2011

The old Pomona Fox Theater has stepped up its game, getting new house lights, fog machines, and more for its sold out Chromeo show on Feburary 19. Both the floor and balcony were jam packed full of people who even spilled out onto the rooftop despite the rainy conditions.

The opening acts varied greatly in style. The first being a group from Japan called The Suzan and that sings entirely in Japanese. The other was a local girl calling herself MNDR who plays a charming and catchy style of dancehall that sadly redlined throughout her set, nearly blowing out the Fox PA system.

When the crowd shouts your name throughout the sets of your openers (rude) as well as through soundcheck, then you know that you have a loyal fanbase. “Chrom-e-oh, oh-oh” was the battlecry that opened the duo’s set, which only exploded from there. As the last stop on the Business Casual tour, Chromeo pulled out all of the stops, with the aforementioned aid of an amazing new stage set-up. The stage presence of Dave, P, and their backup dancers was phenomenal. As one would expect at a sold out show, every song played like a fan favorite, with insane screaming only several notes into a song. Nevertheless, Chromeo went over all of the singles – “Tenderoni”, “Needy Girl”, their new “Hot Mess,” of course, and closer “Fancy Footwork” – and when the crowd finally let out in the early hours of the morning, not a single soul seemed disappointed. Then again, Chromeo have always been crowd pleasers.
