Olof Arnalds probably isn’t a name you hear often, but it should be. The Icelandic gem and friend of fellow Icelander Björk has released her sophmore album, Innudir Skinni. Translated into “under the skin,” Innudir Skinni is the follow up album to her highly successful 2007 release Við og við,> which was written entirely in her native Icelandic tongue.
The album is a thing of colossal artistry. The title track is the inception of the folk manifesto with its fairytale-like sound that will saunter throughout the rest of the album. Opener “Vinur Minn” is encapsulated with an enchanting melody paired with lyrical purity while “Crazy Car,” which is sung entirely in English, is a delicate duet with Davíð Þór Jónsson. Yet, the standout song on the album is the collaboration with Björk on “Surrender,” adding another layer of dynamic vocals.
Innudir Skinni is an uplifting album filled with hope and inspiration, well rounded songs, and another layer of musical talent that is quite the contrary from the minimialistic Við og við. Whatever the next chapter holds, we have no doubt that it will end happily.
