Loch Lomond is a band that brings unconventional to a whole new level. While the name refers to a great lake in Scotland, only adds to the anomalous nature of this sextet. The Portland chamber pop band was formed with musicians for all walks of life coming together to create something truly unique from vocal genius Ritchie Young; also on guitar and percussion Scott Magee on clarinets, percussion, bass, ukulele, vocals; Jade Eckler; vocals; Dave Depper; bass, guitar, keys, vocals; Jason Leonard; vibraphone, banjo, guitar, percussion, sounds; Johanna Kunin; vocals, piano, flute, melodica.
After the success of 2007’s Paper The Walls and a US tour with The Decemberists, the sextets are releasing their latest album, Little Me Will Start A Storm out Feb. 22nd on Tender Loving Empire. Little Me Will Start A Storm a diamond waiting to be discovered. “Blue Lead Fences,” the leader of the nine song album, is a heavily upbeat, cheerful song that blends great chorus of harmonies, where folk meets funk. Next is “Elephants and Little Girls,” which despite its odd title is whimsical, and album highlight “Earth Has Moved Again,” sung in beautifully a countertenor tone that makes it a uniquely soft and slow song.
Little Me Will Start A Storm is an engaging album to listen to with upbeat tempo’s and alluring sounds that being cohesive outside of harmonies works magically for this band. They’ve created a album with something new at every song, and an incomparable niche all their own.
