In an email newsletter sent primarily to provide info on the presale for their Madison Square Garden concert, The Strokes shed a little more light on whether they would be playing SXSW in Austin. It appears they are indeed performing, it’s just that the details of where they’ll be playing will be released within the week.
The newsletter said the following:
The band also has something cool planned for SXSW. Make sure to visit TheStrokes.com on Tuesday, February 22nd, for the details.
We’ll have the full details on where and when they’ll performing on the 22nd. In the meantime, you can either head over to their online store to pre-order their new album Angles or participate in the presale for their MSG show. The band will also be performing on Saturday Night Live on March 5th.
UPDATE: SXSW.com just confirmed the date and location of The Strokes’ performance at SXSW 2011. The Strokes will perform for free at the Auditorium Shores Stage at Lady Bird Lake on Thursday March 17th. The show does not require badge to attend and is being sponsored by Levi’s (whom most diehard SXSW attendees know normally sponsor the annual Fader Fort party). The set time is currently unannounced, but judging by SXSW’s site it will most likely be 8:00 p.m.
