RIAA Makes Moves Threatening Net Neutrality

The Recording Industry Association of America has some serious concerns with ICANN’s (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers) plan to allow new series of generic top level domains. These gTLDs are domains like .net and .edu, but the RIAA is concerned with the planned new domain .music. The RIAA claims that allow such domains as .music will encourage music piracy. It is unclear how this practice will encourage piracy but it is clear that the RIAA has had quite enough to deal with in the past decade.

The RIAA is concerned with the process required to protest new domain names, claiming that ICANN sets the bar too high for other organizations that seek to police the internet.
