The organizers of Japan’s Summer Sonic festival dropped an early Christmas present today in the form of lineup additions to the annual event—specifically, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Strokes.
RHCP drummer Chad Smith leaked info about the band’s second appearance at Summer Sonic a few months ago, but the news was confirmed today. The Strokes appearance at the festival will serve as their first appearance outside of Europe in 2011.
Taking place August 13-14 in Osaka and Tokyo, Summer Sonic will see RHCP’s and The Strokes’ first live shows in supported of their expected upcoming albums. Each band will play both cities, switching places after the first night of the event.
