The new highly anticipated album coming from project-gone-legend American group, Gorillaz, is already famed for being entirely recorded on an iPad. Finally, the band has announced its release date. Just in time for the holidays, the album will be dropping Christmas day.
The mysterious, anticipated album had little planning involved and was literally recorded in about a month while on the road during a North American tour. The idea of its spontaneity makes it even more exciting for fans.
Featured on the Gorillaz website is a holiday advent calendar. In celebration of the 12 days before Christmas, each day entitles a special, exclusive gift for fans. Jamie Hewlett spills the details in an interview with Perth Now.
“At the moment we’ve got an advent calendar on our website and there is a daily door that opens to reveal a gift,” Hewlett said. “On Christmas Eve a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released. Then, on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift.”
The home page for the advent calendar welcomes fans with a brief, fun statement in spirit of the holidays, and of course with a signature Gorillaz twist:
“Greetings! Gorillaz’s little elves have been busy preparing a daily feast of Gorillaz gift ephemera for your jolly enjoyment.
Tis the season to be Mary… Blah, blah, Bah Humbug, blah….! Insert your own jovial Xmas bull***t here.”
Check out Gorillaz website daily beginning December 12 to get your Christmas dosage up until the free album drop and download on the 25th.
