A documentary about punk singer Kathleen Hanna, formerly of Bikini Kill, is currently in the works, though more money needs to be raised in order to ensure the production is completed by next summer. Director Sini Anderson hopes to finish the film in time for next fall’s festival circuit.
The documentary is tentatively titled The Kathleen Hanna Project a.k.a. Who Told You Christmas Wasn’t Cool? There will be a concert at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on December 11 to help with the funding of the project, as well as film contributing footage.
The lineup will include a host of musicians who influenced or were influenced by Hanna. Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and her daughter Coco Gordon will be among the performers, along with Coco’s band She Murders. Caroline Polachek of Chairlift, Toshi Reagon, and Kaia Wilson will be among the performers. And of course, Hanna herself will be in the house.
