Fascinating, the World Over
What do you get when you mix two Australians and a Englishman? The incredible wonders that are appropriately titled The Greencards. Back with their fourth album, Fascination, the progressive bluegrass band takes ownership of their latest release in a way they never have before.
Coming off five years of constant touring with such legendary greats as Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, the Austin-based trio of Kym Warner, Carol Young and Englishman Eamon McLounglin were able to put aside their individual pride to form the cohesive bond they were searching for and create their most focused album to date. Fascination is a flawless combination of a traditional bluegrass with a celtic-esque twist; a contrast that continues even into the lyrics.
For this album, The Greencards teamed up with producer Jay Joyce to compose an earth-focused, instrumentally mastered album. “Lover I Love The Best” beautifully demonstrates the exquisitely written ballads while “Davey Jones” highlights the awe-inspiring vocals from Young and the dueling mastery of strings from Warner on the mandolin and McLounglin on the violin, blending the three components in perfect harmony. Yet the true highlight of The Greencards’ cohesive talent lies in the Grammy-nominated song ‘The Crystal Merchant,” which rounds out the album with it’s charmingly sophisticated instrumental adroitness.
The Greencards have found a way for their music to speak as one voice, and Fascination isn’t about the destination The Greencards are heading towards, but rather the journey they’ve embarked on.
