The other part of this day’s greatest conflict Sleep, was already half way through their classic album Holy Mountain. The trio comprised Matt Pike, Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius recently reunited after years of working their other projects High on Fire and Om. The genius in their work was on display in full force here. Sleep showed the value in careful nuance. Silence was important as raw edge. At one point Matt Pike made artful use of a four-minute sustain of feedback. Also, excellent to note that this was another example of heavy music finding its place again. They drew a large crowd and they all left happy.
