Jonathan Meiburg (Shearwater) and Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu) have joined musical genius forces to create Blue Water White Death. The two named this first collaboration after the 1971 documentary that follows a team of reckless explorers on a shark-hunting adventure to Australia’s Dangerous Reef. The duo is said to conjure up “clean, even tones and the nonchalant picking of acoustic guitars that recall life on the open sea, notes and words paced like breaststrokes on the journey to the depths and finally, jarring mysterious noises meshed with vocals that echo the isolated, garbled quantities of the inside of a diver’s mask.” So, I guess the band is aptly named.
Blue Water White Death’s debut album will be released October 12th via Graveface Records.
