The Dead Weather – Outdoor Theatre

Right after Muse, The Dead Weather played a set leaning on the sinister/dark side of the blues. Jack White’s newest project (and already about to release their second album) didn’t concern themselves with trying to rock out uptempo vibes. Rather, they plucked and jammed with vintage grace, like the titans of blues-rock bands of old. Dean Fertita (of Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (of The Raconteurs) held down the axe work while Alison Mosshart (of The Kills – who White introduced as Baby Ruthless) slithered and slid with sex appeal, her massive mop of dark hair flopping over her face. New single “Die By the Drop” was menacing, but it was “Cut Like A Buffalo” and “60 Feet Tall” that really nailed the retro sound White is searching for.
