The fame and success may have gotten to MGMT in a bad way. The duo flushed out to a full band came off rather sloppy. It’s a shame as coming into Coachella they had developed one of the most rabid and large followings of any new band in recent years, a solid performance here would’ve ensured them a main stage slot assuredly. But, it looks as if MGMT is about to enter the sophomore slump. Apart from “Weekend Wars,” “Time to Pretend” and “Electric Feel,” it seemed as if lead singer VanWyngarden was mumbling all their songs. Something was buried in the performance, and in doing so everything reeked as though they had utterly lost their confidence. At one point VanWyngarden literally said, “Please buy our new album!” Where’s Astro? Ruh roh Reorge!
