A long-established entertainer, Gil Scott-Heron introduced the evening with deep grooves and a rich baritone. Singing “You gotta work for peace” repeatedly at one point and nnot be willing to go on at another until the audience participated, as beautiful as Scott-Heron’s voice is this was just a smidge too redundant to be truly excellent.
