WOXY Indie Music Station Shuts Down

WOXY, the prominent Indie music station has shut down their live broadcasts stunning listeners and their own staff. One of the station’s DJ’s, Matt Shiverdecker wrote an online message stating, ‘It is absolutely mind-boggling to me that I have to sit down and write these words: WOXY.com is being shut down today by the owners at Future Sounds.” The station had moved from Cincinnatti to Austin this year, uprooting and re-locating the staff, who hoped to part of the station as it moved up to the next level according to an article on Cincinnatti.com.

WOXY’s website posted a quote siting the poor economy and lack of funding lead to the closure. John Mascarenhas, a partner at Future Sounds was quoted in an article on Cincinnati.com, saying “WOXY’s ahead of the curve and always has been, sometimes to its own detriment, ” explaining under-the-radar music and up-and-coming acts can be a tough sell to corporations in this economy.”

Replacing WOXY, will be XPoNential Radio, an alternative music station out of Philadelphia.
