The American Airlines Center in Dallas hosted Red Bull Soundclash, with Shiny Toy Guns going head-to-head with Erykah Badu and her not-so-secret side project The Cannabinoids. The bands had to perform a few of their own compositions, followed by a clash between both artists.
One particularly interesting round in the contest involved one band starting one of their own songs, and the other having to finish it in their respective style. This resulted in a strange mingling (or should that be mangling?) of sounds, as Shiny Toy Guns erupted into “Ghost Town,” and The Cannabinoids followed on when the Guns stopped playing, infusing the track with Badu’s unique vocals and a hip-hop twist.
The audience of 7,000 lapped this up, and eventually crowned The Cannabinoids as the winners by a single point. A great night was had by all, and as it was free to all, who could really complain?
