During Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video (“You Belong to Me”) at MTV’s Music Video Awards, Kanye West walked up to the stage and announced that Beyonce’s video should have won for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” West did not stay for the duration of the awards ceremony and posted an apology, in all caps, on his website. While he apologizes for taking away her moment, he explains his actions and why he acted in the manner that he did.
Beyonce allowed Taylor Swift to finish her speech after another award, stating that she had her share of award-show moments and called her back on stage. Taylor’s response to the incident: “I was standing on stage and I was really excited because I’d just won the award and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. And then I wasn’t excited anymore after that.”
The video.
