The Shins’ frontman James Mercer announced today that the band’s lineup will be shuffled around. Jesse Sandoval, the drummer of the Shins, has been replaced by Joe Plummer of Modest Mouse and Fruit Bats bassist Ron Lewis has stepped in for keyboardist Marty Crandall.
Mercer decided it was time to shuffle up the line-up considering he had been playing with Sandoval and Crandall since the mid-nineties. The “restructuring†was revealed on May 4 in Washington when the new members appeared on stage. They will be completing the Shins spring tour for Wincing the Night Away with the revised line-up, as well as their upcoming album, with Mercer’s new production ideas, for next year on his own label, Aural Apothecary.
