Street Sweeper is a new band teaming the forces of Tom Morello and Boots Riley. With a debut album now complete, they are joining Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction in a North American tour. It’s the first time Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction have performed together since Lollapalooza in 1991, and the first time Jane’s Addiction’s original line-up has toured in 17 years.
In a press release, Morello says, “It’s revolutionary party jams.” Riley adds, “This is a time when the working class is being fleeced left and right. More families will be homeless and more people will be jobless. They’ll need something to listen to on their iPods while storming Wall Street.”
Tom Morello has been recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the “100 Greatest Guitar Players of All-Time.” He is also a founding member of both Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, whose combined success has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Morello is one of the only two guitarists replicated as a playable animated character in the hugely popular video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock by Activision. He’s been considered a political activist throughout his career, holding a Harvard University degree with honors as a Political Science major.
Boots Riley is best known to be part of a hip-hop group from Oakland, CA called, The Coup. Billboard Magazine touted The Coup, as one of the best hip-hop acts of the past decade, and they’ve made Top 10 lists at Rolling Stone.
