Progressive murk monsters Sonic Youth have signed with indie impresarios Matador Records – leaving a 20 year relationship with Universal Music Group in the dust.
The last album released under the Universal label, Rather Ripped, was released in early 2006 and was followed by a rarities collection, The Destroyed Room.
Youth guitarist/vocalist Thurston Moore told Billboard, “Matador is a super strong, high-profile label with an indie distribution system that is exactly what a band like us in this current climate needs more than anything.” Moore and Sonic Youth are expecting a full length release prior to next summer.http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003847276
