One Too Many Friend Requests
MySpace overtook the popularity of Makeoutclub, Friendster, and a few others so fast it’s scary. Led by the fearless, ever-smiling Tom, there is no better place to find whiny emo-boys looking tortured in bathtubs of fake blood, or to see more than you ever wanted to see of your best friend’s teenage sister. Due to the site’s immense popularity, MySpace has also released a CD. MySpace Records Volume 1 (you get 8 extra pictures for your profile if you buy it) is a hodge-podge of pop and indie-lite rock and roll. Tracks from Weezer, Dashboard, AFI, Fall Out Boy, and many others grace us with their presence on this compilation.While MySpace may be the place where unsigned bands try and accumulate more fans, those bands apparently aren’t good enough to be on Volume 1. Evidently, groups like Weezer need more fans, so they included a track from Make Believe. There are some real gems on here, such as the pop-punk musings of New Years Day, or the nerd-rock style of Jupiter Sunrise.
The album makes sense overall. It allures mainstream music fans in a hope that they will check out some unsigned artists since it has an assortment of bands they are already familiar with.
As previously stated with Weezer (and for the other successful groups) the tracks have all been released before. It would have been more ideal if MySpace had somehow managed to secure some new tracks for this disc, but what they did pick works well, and the transition between songs are solid.
Finally, there is a CD to listen to while posting a picture taken with a cell-phone camera in the mirror. Thank you Tom.
